CAMDEN -- A 19-year-old accused of killing a city man last year is being held on $1 million bail after authorities apprehended the suspect in Pennsylvania following a five-month search.
The Camden County Prosecutor's Office said Armando Perez, of Camden, was arraigned on a first-degree murder charge Monday after he was extradited from the Easton, Pa. area.
According to a probable cause statement, two witnesses said they saw Perez arrive at the All American Gardens Apartment complex on Phillips Street on the night of Sunday, Sept. 13 in a taxi and ask "Where is he?"
One witness then reported seeing Perez search for 35-year-old Jose Alvarez. When Perez found him, the witness said Perez approached, pulled out a handgun, pointed it at Alvarez and shot him once in the head.
Another witness did not see the shooting, but reported seeing Perez adjusting his waistband as he walked toward Alvarez. The victim was transported to Cooper University Hospital at about 10:21 p.m. and was pronounced dead at about 10:41 p.m.
Authorities have been searching for Perez for months. He was eventually captured by U.S. Marshals at a residence in Easton.
He will remain in Camden County Jail in lieu of bail.
