N.J. man, 79, dies in Camden County crash

The crash occurred at about 3:09 p.m. near New Freedom and Watsontown roads in Winslow.

WINSLOW TWP. -- A 79-year-old man was killed in a two-car collision on Thursday afternoon, according to township police.

Winslow police said the accident occurred at about 3:09 p.m. near the intersection of New Freedom and Watsontown roads. Nicholas G. Opalenick, 79, of Mount Laurel, was heading south on Watsontown Road as Michael J. Healey, 61, of Franklinville, traveled east on New Freedom Road.

The two men's vehicles collided at the intersection, Winslow EMTs rushed both drivers to Virtua Hospital in Voorhees with serious injuries. Opalenick died shortly afterward. There was no immediate word on Healey's condition.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
