More parking planned as Camden development continues, report says

The site would be between Federal Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

CAMDEN -- Plans for a new parking garage along the city's waterfront section are expected to gain local approval next month as redevelopment in the area continues.

NBC10 reports the slated site would be between Federal Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. That area is currently home to the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) headquarters and a neighboring multi-level parking garage.

Camden waterfront improvements

According to the report, local leaders say the garage would help alleviate traffic concerns once new businesses, like the Philadelphia 76ers training facility, and mixed-use development, like the one proposed by Liberty Property Trust, set up shop in town.

A county spokesman told NJ Advance Media earlier this week that the vast parking options already available at the waterfront -- namely the lots in front of The Victor apartment buildings and former Riversharks stadium -- are likely to soon disappear.

Liberty Property Trust's sprawling $830 million waterfront project spans from Market Street past Campbell's Field to the Ben Franklin Bridge. Highlights of the plan include more green space, a downtown shuttle and additional ferry linking Camden to Philadelphia.
