A group of four people pulled a motorist from a flaming wreck in Camden County Friday, March 18, 2016.
WINSLOW TWP. -- Several bystanders worked together to pull a driver from a burning car crash on Friday evening.
The accident happened just before 7 p.m. on New Brooklyn-Erial Road and Eden Hollow Lane in Winslow. Police said the driver, 20-year-old Tyrone Gollop, Jr., of Sicklerville, was the only person in the car when he lost control of the vehicle and headed into a Camden County park. There, the car hit a large pine tree.
Video from 6ABC shows fire rising from one end of the vehicle as a group of people works to get the driver out. The flames begin to grow just as the man is freed from the wreck.
Gil Shaw, who was driving by the scene, used an axe to try and open the car door, according to NBC. Eventually, the TV station said, Shaw and several others were able to pull out the car window and rescue Gollop.
"It was just my duty to do what I could do," Shaw, a former Boy Scout, told NBC. "I was trained that way."
Gollop was flown to Cooper Hospital in Camden. Investigators said the young man was in critical but stable condition.
