CHESTER, Pa. -- The Philadelphia Union earned a decisive victory over the New England Revolution, 3-0, in their home opener in front of a crowd of 17,027 at Talen Energy Stadium Sunday afternoon.
C.J. Sapong had a pair of goals in the first half, with Fabinho earning the assist on the first goal in the 18th minute and Warren Creavalle on the assist on Sapong's second goal in the 33rd minute.
Sebastian Le Toux scored in the second half in stoppage time. Leo Fernandes and Chris Pontius earned the assists on the goal.
Union goalkeeper Andre Blake earned the shutout with two saves. Revolution keeper Bobby Shuttleworth tallied five saves. Shuttleworth is the fourth goalkeeper in MLS history to block two penalty kicks in a single game, the first by Ilsinho and the second from Le Toux.
Revolution defender Je-Vaughn Watson left the game in the 36th minute on a red-card foul against Roland Alberg.
The Union now stands at two wins and one loss in the 2016 season. New England has yet to win a game this season, with a record of one loss and two draws.
After a week off, the Union travel to play Chicago Fire on April 2.
