WINSLOW TWP. -- An 8-year-old elementary school student was suspended for one day earlier this week when she showed up wearing a green polo shirt that wasn't the required shade of dark green, as stated in the school code.
The story inspired lots of comments from readers. Here are two opposing viewpoints from the debate among NJ.com commenters.
So why have a dress code if you can wear what you want? The dress code was made clear to all parents and students. No excuses. Sorry.
Dress codes are an incredibly great idea. However, this case is a little extreme, and a warning letter would have been the appropriate action. I think that the administrators are right by strictly following the dress code, however, by sending the student home, you cause more disruption than necessary to ensure compliance with the code.
