You can probably guess number one, but find out which other schools made the top 10.
PRINCETON -- New Jersey's colleges and universities paid full-time professors $124,894 on average in the 2014-15 school year, according to new data released by the Chronicle of Higher Education.
Princeton University led the state with an average salary of $194,292, the tenth-highest among the nation's four-year private schools.
Rutgers University's Newark campus ranked 12th nationally among four-year public schools with an average professor salary of $147,825, the highest among New Jersey's public universities.
Meanwhile, Rutgers-New Brunswick's average professor salary of $137,574 was 30th among four-year public schools, one spot behind the University of Pittsburgh.
The average salary figures were compiled by the Chronicle of Higher Education for a database of 4,700 institutions. The data, released Thursday, comes from information schools submitted to the U.S. Department of Education.
Full professors are a minority of the teaching staff at many colleges, and the database also includes average wages for associate professors, assistant professors, instructors, lecturers and unranked faculty, who all make substantially less money.
New Jersey's data includes reports from 74 colleges, including public and private universities, two-year and four-year institutions, for-profit colleges and religious schools.
Union County College had the highest average professor salary for the state's two-year schools, $111,780.
The average pay data also highlights the disparity between the salaries for male and female professors. Men who are college professors in New Jersey make $132,301 on average while women make $111,021.

- Assistant professors: $69,612
- Lecturers: $57,841
- Instructors: $49,850
- Unranked: $48,441
