Charles Sheppard has pleaded guilty in the 2013 homicide case.

CAMDEN -- A City man admitted Tuesday he was responsible for the stabbing death of Rhonda Scott, whose body was found in an abandoned home with multiple stab wounds and badly burned in 2013.

Charles Sheppard, 26, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the case. Under a plea deal, he is scheduled to be sentenced on June 3 to 30 years in prison without parole, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

Scott, 38, was found on the 1700 block of Tioga Street on Deb. 8, 2013. She had been stabbed multiple times in the back and stomach and her remains were then set on fire. Emergency personnel discovered her body as they were responding to the house fire.

DNA evidence helped police link Sheppard to the case, who was charged six months after Scott's murder.

Police had previously released surveillance photos from a Camden business that showed five individuals buying items with Scott's Family First benefits card after her death.
