Casche Alford turned herself in earlier this year.

CAMDEN -- A 17-year-old city girl will be tried as an adult in connection with the fatal shooting of 13-year-old Nathaniel "Nate" Plummer, Jr., who became Camden's first homicide victim of 2016.

Casche Alford appeared in juvenile court Thursday on a first-degree murder charge and was waived to adult court, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office. She is accused of shooting Nathaniel, an Octavius V. Catto Community School 7th grader, on the night of Jan. 7 near Beacon and Line streets.

Following a ShotSpotter activation and 911 calls, the victim was found by Camden County police lying on the sidewalk. He was transported to Cooper University Hospital and pronounced dead almost an hour after the incident was reported.

A call for unity after teen's death

Thursday was the first time Casche -- who been held at a juvenile detention facility since Jan. 9 -- was publicly identified by authorities. She was charged with first-degree murder in late January.

According to previous reports, she turned herself in to Camden County police in January. She was also wanted on an attempted murder charge stemming from a non-fatal Camden shooting on Oct. 30, 2015 that occurred on the 2600 block of Mickle Street.

Camden City has seen 16 homicides so far this year. Alford is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday afternoon.
