Devil's Creek Brewery is one of the newest breweries to open in South Jersey, following Kelly Green, which opened in nearby dry town Pitman recently.
COLLINGSWOOD -- Devil's Creek Brewery, the long-awaited business that hopes to open a new chapter for the historically dry borough, will hold its grand opening this weekend after a private VIP event Friday evening.
Borough officials announced a year ago that Collingswood would move to allow microbreweries to open in its busy downtown. In a few days, Kathy and Anthony Abate will bring that idea full circle.
"Hopefully, we'll get some foot traffic," Kathy Abate said to NJ Advance Media in January. "People can make it a whole experience of shopping, eating and then coming to us."
The Abates have spent the last three years working on what they described as their "ultimate dream." The brewery will have eight taps that will include three to four core beers -- like an IPA, a porter or a golden ale -- with the rest rotating through various seasonal and specialty brews.
Local beer enthusiasts aren't the only ones waiting for the opening of Devil's Creek. Borough officials and residents are ready for the brewery as well.
"The overwhelming response from residents has been in favor with a firm expression that breweries would be a great compliment to our business district," Mayor James Maley said in a press release last year. "There was little to no concern that this would affect the family nature of Collingswood or cause an unruly bar scene. Most people love that they can shop locally in Collingswood, and it turns out good craft beer is no exception."
Devil's Creek Brewery will hold its grand opening on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. The brewery is located at 1 Powell Lane, Collingswood, at the corner of Haddon Avenue. For more information, visit devilscreekbrewery.com.
