Authorities arrested another suspect in another Camden slaying earlier this week.
CAMDEN -- A city man accused of gunning down a Camden resident is behind bars after members of the U.S. Marshals Service arrested him Thursday morning, authorities say.
Robert "Chuck" Wilcox, 31, is charged with the first-degree murder following the May 8 shooting death of 38-year-old Lance E. Jenkins, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.
Camden County police responded to the 1400 block of Bradley Avenue just after 3 a.m. that morning following a ShotSpotter activation for a single gunshot. Officers arriving at the scene found Jenkins lying on a sidewalk.
He was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:22 a.m.
Wilcox was taken into custody the U.S. Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force - Camden Division at approximately 11 a.m. Thursday in Camden, according to the prosecutor's office. He presently sits in the Camden County Jail.
A total of 21 people have been killed in Camden City since the beginning of the year. Camden County police chief Scott Thomson told NJ Advance Media Wednesday that his force is "diligently" working with the FBI to track down suspected killers in unsolved homicides.
"We are doubling down on community policing with the recent academy class of 61 officers who will be partnered with seasoned training officers and deployed to walking beats in our most challenged areas with the mission of hitting 'tipping points' by building relationships and getting good people to enjoy their streets," the chief added.
