The crash took place in the westbound lanes of the expressway shortly after 3 a.m. near Exit 38.

State police said the vehicle ran off the roadway and struck several trees. One report said that the vehicle then overturned.

One of the two people in the vehicle was flown to Cooper University Hospital, Camden, and the other victim was taken to another area hospital.

The person airlifted to Cooper had serious injuries, authorities said.
