Pair indicted following alleged $40K burglary spree

The Camden County residents were arrested in January and are believed to be responsible for 14 burglaries across several counties.

WOODBURY -- Two Gloucester City residents were indicted last week on charges related to a string of store burglaries around South Jersey.

Christopher C. Weldon, 36, and Sabrina F. Givens, 37, were indicted by a Gloucester County grand jury on charges that they broke into a Heritage's store on North Main Street in Harrison Township in November of last year.

Police believe Weldon and Givens are responsible for 14 commercial burglaries across South Jersey and an attempted burglary between late November and early January.

Authorities say they targeted closed convenience stores and gas stations and stole more than $40,000 in cash and merchandise. The merchandise was generally cigarettes and cigars.

In December, a multi-jurisdictional investigation was launched, involving detectives from the state police and municipal departments in Salem, Gloucester, Cape May, Atlantic, Burlington and Camden counties.

In the Harrison Township case, Weldon and Givens allegedly stole more than $1,700 in cigarettes and caused $500 in damage while breaking into the business, according to the complaint signed against them. A side door was pried open to enter the business.

In that case, Weldon was indicted on charges of burglary, theft by unlawful taking and conspiracy to commit burglary, while Givens was indicted only on a charge of conspiracy to commit burglary.

They were arrested in Middle Township, Cape May County, in January after police pulled over their vehicle. Inside was merchandise allegedly stolen from a Pantry One in the Dias Creek area of the township.

Following their arrests, Weldon was jailed in Cape May County and Givens was placed in Atlantic County's jail.
