David Clune argued he was struggling with family medical issues.
GLOUCESTER TWP. -- A former Timber Creek High School math teacher will lose his teaching certification following a decision from the state Department of Education's board of examiners.
David Clune, 37, was arrested in 2013 as a result of inappropriate text messages he sent to two underage students. In part, those texts included calling one of the students "hot" and seeing if another wanted to "shoot the s***" and "get baked."
Here's what some NJ.com readers had to say about Clune having his two teaching certificates revoked.
- TaxNoMore08619: "I can't believe that with social media, texting, etc., these teachers think they can get away with this behavior. When I was in school, the nuns just kept their frustrations to themselves and made us stand with our backs to the sun at lunch period, standing at attention."
- real smooth fella: "What a loser. How is it possible people keep using electronic communications to hook up with minors in this day and age?"
Why were cops called to third-grade party?
- momgrandma: "The flip side of having sexual predators able to fly under the radar in our schools is the staff and administrators wanting to keep their pristine records and not reporting these incidents."
RoveHam: "It is hard-wired programming, courtesy of evolution. These girls were 16 and he thought they were "hot". From an evolutionary standpoint, this was completely normal for all animals, including us, until we got ourselves civilized and we placed emotional well-being ahead of the instinct to procreate. Most of us civilized adults have mechanism inside of us that says: "She is a child, and you are not attracted to her," or, at least, "even if you still think that she is hot, she is a child and you need to stop thinking about her that way." For folks like this guy, that moral/social/civilized mechanism is not as well developed, as it is in most. But all adults are responsible to abide by our society's rules, irrespective of their personal desires."
- indiggo: "So because you were lonely and drunk, the only person you could text at the time was a teenage girl? And you shouldn't be punished for that? What a loser. Please. He should register as a sex offender."
- Alnitak: "I will never understand why these people risk their careers and professional standing. Is the sexual pull that strong? Stupid, stupid, stupid decisions."
