Camden County Police and Camden City's Fire Department are investigating the blazes as likely arsons.
CAMDEN -- Police and fire officials in the city have formed an arson task force to investigate 14 suspicious fires over the course of the weekend, according to Camden County spokesman Dan Keashen.
In the course of 72 hours, seven firefighters were injured and one resident had to be rescued from a roof during the 14 blazes, all of which occurred within a one-mile radius of the Whitman Park neighborhood.
Most of the fires were in abandoned or vacant home, but at least three residents were displaced, according to Keashen, who said the Red Cross had to assist them after their Ramona Gonzales Street home caught fire.
All of the fires follow "a similar pattern and geography," he added, and police officers are canvassing the neighborhood and interviewing residents about the suspicious fires.
The blazes began Saturday with fires occurring on Jackson Street, South 6th Street, Walnut Street and Mt. Vernon Street -- where two adjacent homes were consumed by the flames. They continued on Sunday with eight of the 10 fires occurring on 8th and Cherry Streets, Haddon Avenue, Princess Avenue, Park Boulevard, Lansdowne Avenue, Sycamore Street and Pine Street, according to Philly.com.
The firefighters who all suffered non-life threatening injuries, mostly due to heat exhaustion, have all been released from the hospital, according to Keashen.
The task force is also asking any member of the public who has any information or sees something suspicious to call its tip line at 856-757-7042.
