Killing, sexual assault of 2-year-old leads to charges against man and mom

The toddler's mother is also charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

GLOUCESTER CITY -- A 22-year-old Manahawkin man is facing murder and sexual assault charges in connection with the death of a 2-year-old girl.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office said Michael Disporto Jr. was arrested Thursday night along with the toddler's mother, 26-year-old Amber Bobo of Gloucester City, who is charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

The toddler was transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden Sunday night at about 6 p.m. from a residence on the 100 block of S. King Street in Gloucester City.

She died from her injuries at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Disporto Jr. is expected to make a first appearance in court at 3 p.m. Friday before Camden County Superior Court Judge John T. Kelley.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the case and ask that anyone with information that could aid in the investigation contact Camden County Prosecutor's Office Detective James Brining at 856-225-8439 or Gloucester City Police Detective Joe Hopkins at 856-456-0408.

According to a GoFundMe page, the girl's father dropped the toddler off with her mother and less than a day later she was taken to the hospital. The fundraising account for the girl's father, titled "Angels For Ariana,"  has raised more than $5,000 in two days.

"Ariana was the happiest baby you would ever see!" the page says. "Her smile could light the greyest sky's! She was so loved! And will be deeply missed! Ariana was Rob's world he would have moved mountains for her! She was his best friend, his everything! She was his world! "
