CHERRY HILL -- A man fled a large fight outside a bar on Route 70 early Sunday morning and then shot himself in his lower body, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

The man was hospitalized and later charged with possession of a weapon.

At about 2 a.m., Cherry Hill police responded to the reported melee in the parking lot outside the Craft House and Beer Garden. As police intervened, a woman jumped on a man's back, according to a statement issued by the prosecutor's office Sunday evening.

Officers tried to approach the man -- who was later identified as 23-year-old Daniel Allen Jr., of Pennsauken -- but Allen took off and fled the area.

Officers heard a gunshot and eventually caught up with Allen, who had shot himself in "the lower part of his body," according to the prosecutor's office.

After Allen was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden -- where he was eventually charged with possession of a weapon -- another man was detained after he allegedly tried retrieve Allen's gun off the ground.

That man, Joshua Haughton, 24, of Pennsauken, was charged with obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence.
