Grant money will be used to purchase supplies for Ronald McDonald House

CAMDEN -- Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey was awarded a $1,000 grant on July 21 by Wells Fargo to support the organization's mission of providing a comfortable home for ill children receiving medical care at nearby hospitals and their families.

Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey has served as a "home-away-from-home" for more than 24,000 families whose children are being treated at nearby hospitals for critical illnesses or traumatic injuries. They enable over 800 families a year to focus on helping their children heal, and have served families from as close as Southern New Jersey, and as far as all other states and 39 foreign countries. Located in Camden, its four-story brick building includes 25 comfortable bedrooms with private baths, a tranquil garden, convenient kitchen, large dining room, living room with fireplace, TV lounges, playrooms, laundry rooms, and internet access for parents to keep in touch with other family members and to do research on their child's condition.

"It is through support from local companies like Wells Fargo that help us continue our mission to serve families whose children are currently receiving medical care at local hospitals," said Teddy Thomas, executive director of Ronald McDonald House SNJ. "We will use this grant to purchase supplies for the House in order to help our families as they go through a difficult time."

The grant was awarded as part of Wells Fargo's Community Connections program which provides local branch managers the opportunity to make a $1,000 charitable contribution on behalf of Wells Fargo to a nonprofit of their choice.

Wells Fargo's 42 branches in the Southern New Jersey region distributed a total of $41,000 in grants to support nonprofit groups -- $1,000 for a nonprofit identified by each store manager.

The Community Connections program offers Wells Fargo store managers the opportunity to provide additional grants to local nonprofits of their choice in New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, New York, and Pennsylvania. A total of $140,000 in Community Connections grants is slated to be distributed throughout the months of July and August in Southern New Jersey.
