Investors donates $10,000 for 'East Camden Project'
The neighborhoods of East Camden -- Dudley, Marlton, Rosedale and Stockton -- are surrounded by the Cooper River to the west, Conrail lines on the north side and, to the east and south, there is Pennsauken Township. The area typically is residential, but there also are commercial areas as well as an industrial area that does not get as much use as it once did. Cooper's Ferry Partnership, along with several other organizations, including the St. Joseph's Carpenter Society, are spearheading an effort to revitalize this area in a project called "My East Camden."
According to Cooper's Ferry Partnership CEO Anthony J. Perno III Esq., "My East Camden" will strengthen the commercial areas on Federal Street, Marlton Avenue and Westfield Avenue, while supporting community-based cleanups of vacant lots that are overgrown with weeds and filled with litter and other debris. Perno said the lots could offer a number of uses, once they are cleaned up, including community gardens and athletic fields.
Cooper's Ferry Partnership applied for the grants from the Investors and Roma Community Bank Foundations, which support non-profit organizations that enrich the diverse communities served by Investors Bank. Roma Bank became part of Investors Bank in December 2013.
"The generosity exhibited today by Investors Bank will make a real difference in the lives of so many East Camden residents," said Perno. "As a non-profit that has been dedicated to the revival of the City of Camden for the past 30 years, we are happy to oversee the launch of this new project. Through the clean-up and beautification of these East Camden neighborhoods and commercial areas, we remain dedicated stewards for city residents and businesses alike -- and true supporters of all planning and revitalization initiatives to benefit the City of Camden as a whole."
"Investors Bank is proud to be able to assist Cooper's Ferry Partnership in the revitalization of East Camden," said Carol-Anne Peacock, assistant vice president, branch manager - Maple Shade. "When communities partner to take action, they can be hugely successful."
"East Camden has a vital history and with everyone focused on working to clean-up the area, bring in more business, and make residents proud of their community, these neighborhoods can play an important role in the city once again," said Marylynn Harkinson, Investors Bank Assistant Vice President and Cherry Hill Branch Manager.
