The property is located about one block away from the Voorhees Towns Center.
VOORHEES TWP. -- The former YMCA facility here will hit the auction block next month, according to real estate company Max Spann.
Although no bid price was included in the listing, the building being sold by the Sterling High School Board of Education offers a "turnkey solution" as a pool and fitness facility, the company proposed.
"Totally renovated top to bottom," Bob Dann, chief operation officer with the Hunterdon County-based real estate company, said Tuesday, adding that the school district purchased the building three years ago so it could use its amenities.
Sterling Superintendent Mark Napoleon was not immediately available for comment Tuesday, although the high school's website still lists the property as a school facility.
According to Dann, Voorhees Township began taxing the school district as the property owner, so the district then backed out on the building and put it up for sale.
According to previous news reports, the YMCA abruptly closed the site in 2008 in light of financial issues. Dann said that the school district was unable to find a full-time use for the facility, later leasing it out to swim clubs.
Amenities within the two-story, 40,000-square-foot commercial building that sits on roughly 3 acres of land include nearly 90 parking spaces, a gym, wrestling room, indoor pool and basketball courts.
Voorhees Town Center goes to undisclosed buyer
The Britton Place property is located about one block away from the Voorhees Town Center, which was purchased late last year by two New York firms for $13.4 million.
The on-site auction at 120 Britton Place will be held at 1 p.m. on Sept. 21. Property previews were scheduled for Aug. 31 and Sept. 7, from noon to 2 p.m. on both dates.
