The arrest follows the discovery of heroin in a vehicle stopped by Washington Township police in March.
WOODBURY -- A fugitive was arrested on drug and child endangerment charges this week, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.
Devon M. Stephen, 21, of Camden, was a passenger in vehicle stopped by Washington Township police on March 17. He was initially charged with providing false information to police and released.
A court-authorized search of the vehicle turned up 52 wax folds of suspected heroin, prosecutors said.
As a result of that discovery, he was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of heroin with intent to distribute and endangering the welfare of a child. A one-year-old child was in the car when it was stopped.
Authorities could not locate Stephen at the time, but that changed this week.
Officers with the GCPO's Fugitive Task Force, assisted by the U.S. Marshals Service, arrested Stephen at his Lakeshore Drive residence on Thursday.
He was placed in Salem County Correctional Facility on $20,000 bail.
The driver of the car, Ivaliz Rosado, 28, of Camden, was also charged in March with the same drug and endangering offenses. Rosado and Stephen are believed to be the parents of the child found in the car, authorities said.
