HADDON HEIGHTS -- Borough police seized more than 500 bags of heroin and nearly $3,000 in cash after breaking up an alleged drug deal earlier this week.

According to Haddon Heights police Chief Bruce H. Koch Jr., an officer spotted suspicious activity at a local business parking lot and went to investigate.

The officer allegedly saw drug paraphernalia during his investigation and determined that one of the subjects at the scene was trying to buy $100 worth of heroin from another person.

As a result of the officer's drug deal interruption, 527 bags of heroin "destined for the streets of Haddon Heights and greater Camden County" as well as $2,571 in cash earned via drug sales was recovered, Koch said.

Police said the deal was being done "in broad daylight" and "within close proximity to two elementary schools." The two subjects, whose identities weren't immediately released, were taken into custody without incident, police said.

As a result of the officer's "observations, quick response and dedication, a large amount of illegal narcotics were seized, possibly preventing potential overdoses throughout our region," Koch said.
