The accident occurred in a work zone on a private property.
WEST AMWELL -- A truck driver was killed Friday when his dump truck rolled over him in a work zone in West Amwell, authorities said.
He was identified as Walter DeGroff, 47, of West Berlin.
The accident occurred about 10:40 a.m. on a private property on Wilson Road, the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office said.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing, but preliminary findings indicate that the truck began to roll down a hill through a field and DeGroff ran after it in an attempt to catch it and stop it. He slipped and the truck ran him over.
The truck and property owner is Joseph Jingoli and Sons, Inc., authorities said.
The investigation is being done by the prosecutor's office's Forensic Analysis Collision Team and West Amwell police.
