HADDON TWP. -- Dashboard camera video from a motor vehicle stop last month obtained by Philly.com shows a struggle between an officer and motorist that allegedly led the officer to shoot the Camden man while making an arrest.
Edmond Brown Jr., 38, was shot in the leg during the Oct. 29 struggle depicted in the 1 minute 29 second video. The gunshot is faintly audible at the 55 second mark, and Philly.com reported the officer did not appear to realize the gun went off.
"You shot me!" Brown is heard yelling in the video.
"No, I didn't," the officer said, as he gripped Brown and started to take him to the ground.
The officer, whose name has not been released, was placed on administrative leave per police protocol after a shooting.
Brown faces multiple charges including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and eluding, assault by automobile, driving in an aggressive manner and violating probation, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon by certain persons not to have weapons. He's being held on $100,000 bail.
Brown was initially pulled over around 10 a.m. Oct. 29 on Alabama Road, authorities have said.
The dashcam video shows the officer asking Brown about prior arrests and instructing him to shut off his pickup truck. The truck then surges forward with the officer clinging to the open driver's side window before the truck crashes into a parked car.
Loaded handgun found in driver's car
According to the Philly.com report, Brown was pulled over because a handicap placard was not taken down while driving. Previous reports indicate that he also had a warrant out for his arrest.
After the truck crashes, the video shows the officer ordering Brown out of the vehicle and the two struggle in the roadway after Brown attempts to flee.
Philly.com reported the officer told investigators the gun in his hand went off while the two fought.
The incident remains under investigation by the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, which said earlier this week that it would not be releasing additional information. A use of force investigation is ongoing.
A fully-loaded .357 Magnum handgun was later found in Brown's vehicle, according to the prosecutor's office.
