Thanksgiving fire forces families out of apartment complex

The blaze at Echelon Village apartments broke out after 1 a.m.

VOORHEES TWP. -- Members of the Red Cross' New Jersey Region are assisting people displaced by a fire here that reportedly broke out around 1 a.m.

Red Cross officials said Saturday morning that two families consisting of seven people were driven out of their homes following a fire along Van Buren Road.

6ABC reports that the fire at Echelon Village apartments, which damaged three units there, may have been sparked by a HVAC unit, although that remains under investigation.

The Red Cross is assisting those displaced by providing temporary lodging. Voorhees police said Thursday morning that there were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.

Readers who can assist the displaced families are asked to contact the Red Cross at 1-800-507-6058.
