Two of the six men involved in the planned heist were sentenced Monday, authorities announced.
CAMDEN -- Two New Jersey men will spend years behind bars after being convicted of various crimes related to the planned robbery of a drug den, U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman announced in a release Monday.
Robert "Born" Smith, 43, of Trenton, and Derrick "Little D" Adams, 30, of Florence and Willingboro, received 360 months and 120 months in prison, respectively, for their roles in the heist, Fishman said.
According to authorities, in January 2014, Smith, Adams, and four other men were recorded discussing their plan for an armed robbery of kilograms of cocaine from a drug stash house. They planned to carry out the robbery while posing as law enforcement officers, officials said. Smith was recorded saying he'd kill the stash house occupants during the robbery, if necessary, authorities said.
When the men met up in Maple Shade on Jan. 30, 2014, they were met by federal agents, who searched them and found five guns, including a sawed-off shotgun and two stolen handguns, ammunition, and other robbery paraphernalia, Fishman said.
In April of this year, Smith was convicted of conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to distribute five or more kilograms of cocaine, possessing a firearm in connection with a crime of violence and drug trafficking, and possession of a firearm as a previously convicted felon, authorities said.
In November 2015, Adams pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to distribute five or more kilograms of cocaine, officials said.
Three of the other conspirators, Daquon Basnight, 25, Jamiil McFarlane, 24, and Morris Muse, 36, all from Trenton, have already been sentenced. The fourth, Sean Forman, 43, of Willingboro, is awaiting sentencing.
