Season will be brighter for children at Nemours duPont

Organizations and businesses team up to help children

DEPTFORD TWP. -- Area organizations and businesses teamed up during the month of December to help make the season brighter for Nemours duPont Pediatrics patients and families by collecting toys to be distributed at Nemours duPont Pediatrics on Almonesson Road in Deptford and Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware.

A drop-off celebration was held on a very cold morning on Dec. 15. The celebration started with a parade beginning at Almonesson Lake Fire Department, 1700 Almonesson Road. Fire trucks and police cars filled with toys followed the 1.4-mile parade route along Almonesson Road, ending at Nemours duPont Pediatrics. There was music and refreshments and special appearances by:

  • Santa Claus
  • Blaze, the Deptford Fire Department mascot
  • Deptford High School Jazz Band
  • Caesar, the Delaware 87ers mascot
  • Furever Friends costumed characters

Representatives from the following organizations were also in attendance:

  • International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 3249
  • South Jersey Federal Credit Union, Voorhees and Deptford Branches
  • Deptford Rotary
  • Filomena's Lakeview Restaurant
  • Deptford Fire Department
  • Voorhees Fire Department
  • Compass Storage
