Ablett Village housing complex was also the site of a fatal stabbing Nov. 5.
CAMDEN -- A 34-year-old woman was shot to death inside a residence at the Ablett Village housing complex late Wednesday, authorities said.
Sgt. Eric Wren of the Camden County prosecutor's office said police received a 911 call at 11:26 p.m. for someone who had been shot. They found the woman suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
She was taken to Cooper University Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 11:41 p.m., Wren said.
He declined to release her name pending notification of her family. It was also not known if she was a resident of the apartment where she was found.
Wren said police can't say for sure yet whether the shooting was a random crime, domestic violence or some other targeted shooting.
Camden cops seek alleged armed robber
This is the second homicide at Ablett Village, located on East State Street, in less than seven weeks.
On Nov. 5, police found Tyree Kirkpatrick, 27, suffering from a stab wound to the chest in an apartment there. They also caught and charged 33-year-old Darryl Townsend, who was allegedly attempting to flee.
Kirkpatrick later died from his wound. Townsend was held on $1 million full cash bail.
The woman's death is the 44th homicide in Camden this year, as reported by the prosecutor's office. The 43rd death was Shawn L. Johnson, 27, who was shot early Tuesday in the 1200 block of East State Street.
That makes it the deadliest year since 2013, when 58 were killed. According to police numbers, 34 were killed in 2015 and 33 in 2014.
Anyone with information about Wednesday's shooting is asked to contact Det. Convery at the prosecutor's office at (856) 365-3279 or Detective Donlon of the Camden County Police Department at (856) 757-7420.
