Isaiah J. Newsome was a juvenile when he allegedly shot the victim in 2015.

MAYS LANDING -- A Sicklerville man who was 17 years old when he allegedly gunned down a juvenile in 2015 will be tried as an adult, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors say Isaiah J. Newsome shot and killed Dr. Steven Davion Garrett, 17, of Pleasantville, on Aug. 7, 2015.

Garrett's body was found in Max Manning Park in Pleasantville. He was shot three times with a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver, authorities say.

The "Dr." is part of the victim's name and not a title, officials explained.

Newsome was arrested in October 2015, charged with murder and placed in juvenile detention, before being moved to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

On Friday, a judge granted the prosecution's motion to try Newsome as an adult. His bail was set at $750,000.

Newsome faces a prison term of 30 years to life if convicted of murder.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit at 609-909-7666, or the Pleasantville Police Department at (609) 641-6100.
