It was shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday when Gloucester Township police responded to the Lakeview Apartment Complex along Lower Landing Road for multiple reports of an active fire.

According to police, the fire was coming from building 72 and was spreading to adjoining structures.

Approximately 50 adults and children were immediately evacuated from several apartment complex buildings.

Both Gloucester Township and Camden County offices of emergency management as well as the American Red Cross provided alternate shelter, food and clothing to the residents.

Police say no residents were hurt in the fire, however one police officer sustained an unspecified minor injury. In all, eight fire companies from Camden and Gloucester counties responded to help put out the fire.

The Gloucester Township Police Department's Investigations Bureau and Camden County Prosecutor's Office of Arson Investigation are looking into the fire, which appears to have been accidental.
