The driver was treated at an area hospital for minor injuries.

OCEAN TOWNSHIP -- A 21-year-old man is accused of drunken driving after he crashed his Honda Accord into a tree Thursday evening.

Police officers were called to Park Avenue in the area of Larchwood Road around 5:26 p.m. for a report of a single-car crash.

The first officer to arrive at the scene, Officer Phillip Jackson, found a 1999 Honda Accord in the middle of Park Avenue. Detective Lt. Timothy Torchia, a spokesman for the Ocean Township Police Department, said the Accord had crashed into a tree.

A photograph of the vehicle after the crash, provided by police, shows it sustained severe front-end damage and a smashed windshield.

The driver of the Accord, 21-year-old Matthew Brown of Haddon Heights, did not suffer serious injuries, Torchia said. Brown was taken to Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch where he was treated for the minor injuries and released, Torchia said.

He was, however, arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, reckless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, open container in a motor vehicle and failure to maintain a lane, Torchia said.

Brown was released from the police station after he was issued a summons pending a future court date.

The crash remains under investigation.
