EAST GREENWICH TWP. -- A Bellmawr man has been indicted on several charges in connection with a May incident in which he is accused of fleeing police after he was reported driving erratically.

Police responded to Cohawkin Road on May 30 for a report of a van swerving all over the road.

Police arrived to find the van stopped in the middle of the road with a man, identified as Edwin Falls, 46, directing traffic around the vehicle as blood streamed down his left arm, according to a previous report.

As officers approached him, Falls announced, "I have to go," and got back into the vehicle. As an officer attempted to open his door, Falls drove off.

Police pursued the van and eventually took Falls into custody.

He allegedly told police he had recently smoked multiple bags of crack cocaine. Falls was taken to a hospital for treatment of his arm injury and the drug overdose. Authorities did not say how he injured his arm.

Falls was indicted on charges of third-degree aggravated assault/simple assault on a law enforcement officer, third-degree eluding/failure to stop, third-degree resisting arrest and third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

Following treatment, he was placed in Salem County Correctional Facility on $100,000 bail.
