Jeff Maxie writes that the president's critics fail to give him a fair chance.
To the Editor:
This is about all the protests that liberals are doing against President Donald Trump, when he is doing some of the same things that every new president has done before.
I feel they need to give him a chance.
I get tired of all these Trump haters. Then, the media will take whatever he says and turn it into a bashing.
The Trump haters should try to take a walk in drug-infested areas and clean that mess up. But I know they'll just go back to their quaint little homes. They don't even give him a chance to see what he can get done.

Take action after N.J. girl's gun death
To the Editor:
I am writing regarding the death of Sailor Righter, the 8-year old girl from Stratford who died from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound on Dec. 31.
According to authorities, her father -- a police officer in the borough -- left a loaded and unsecured weapon within his daughter's reach. He has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and a disorderly persons offense called "storage of firearms if minors have access."
I am writing in hope that the public can have a discussion about gun safety that isn't overshadowed by the politics that so often dominate the subject. It is our responsibility as adults to keep our children safe. If you are a gun owner, that means following proper procedures for storage and handling of your weapon. If you are a parent, it means you talk to other caregivers of your children about guns in their homes.
Talking and educating won't prevent all unintentional shootings of children but, if opening up the discussion saves one life, I think that is enough.
I currently volunteer my time to educate the public about gun safety through a program called Be SMART through Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. Some of the Be SMART advice is:
Secure all guns in your homes and vehicles. Model responsible behavior around guns. Ask about the presence of unsecured guns in other homes. Recognize the risks of teen suicide.
If readers are interested in keeping kids safe, I encourage them to get in touch with their local chapter of Moms Demand Action to learn more.
