Toxicology tests conducted after the death of 3-year-old Brendan Creato failed to detect drugs or other chemicals in the toddler's system at the time of death.

HADDON TWP. -- Nearly three weeks after the disappearance of 3-year-old Brendan Creato, toxicology tests have failed to detect drugs or other chemicals in the toddler's body at the time of death, a lawyer in the case said.

Richard J. Fuschino Jr., the attorney for father D.J. Creato, said an inquiry he made to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office on Monday afternoon regarding a "rumor" about the results revealed the negative findings.

"Unfortunately it's an answer that just brings up more questions," Fuschino said Monday evening, adding that he couldn't elaborate on the rumor that prompted his call.

An autopsy conducted after the Oct. 13 discovery near the Cooper River failed to show the cause and manner of death. Brendan was reported missing by D.J. Creato shortly after 6 a.m. in a 911 call. The boy's body was found approximately three hours later in a wooded area near the Cooper River.

There were no signs of forced entry at D.J. Creato's apartment and no signs of the boy having been sexual abused, the Camden County Prosecutor's office has said.

"We're no closer to knowing what happened," Fuschino said, adding that Creato and his family are just hoping for closure.

Investigators have been made aware of both social media postings from Creato's girlfriend regarding the death and a YouTube video made by Creato's sister as part of a college project -- in which Brendan plays the role of a toddler gone missing before its revealed that he died.

Creato and Samantha Denoto, the boy's mother, do not live together but shared custody of the child. Fuschino previously said he believed the two had an amicable relationship.
