This year, 385 children participated in the Peace Poster contest
Approximately 90 District 16L Lions gathered on Jan 20 for a District Sight Meeting, facilitated by District Sight Chair Min Elders of the Cherry Hill-Pennsauken Korean Lions Club.
After the opening formalities were observed, the evening's special dignitaries and guests were introduced. District Governor Bob Freidel presented the members of two clubs, the Hammonton Lions Club and the Gloucester City Lions Club, with the "Club Excellence" award.
The Bak Sun Young Dance Troupe then took the floor. Their program began with Sun Young Park, the group leader, dancing the Jindo buk Ccum or Drum Dance Solo; then the members of her group performed the Fan Dance.
The district recognized the winners of the annual Lions Peace Poster Contest at the meeting also. This year, 385 children participated in the Peace Poster contest, representing 10 schools in District 16L. Each of the clubs involved selected one winner.
From these local winners, one was chosen to represent District 16L.
The theme was "A Celebration of Peace" and Mimi Nguyen, an eighth grader from the Memorial School, Eatontown Lions club, placed first among the District 16L winners.
Second place was Joanna Shin, a fifth grader from the Korean School of Southern New Jersey, Cherry Hill-Pennsuaken Korean Lions Club.
The third place winner was Christina Ho, an eighth grader from the Goetz Middle School, Toms River Lions Club.
She couldn't attend the meeting but International Director Mel Bray accepted the plaque and a cash award for her. The plaques, and cash awards were presented by the Freidel. The sponsoring Lions Clubs of the winners were present to hear the winners announced and recognized for their efforts. Freidel thanked each of the participants who took the time and made the effort to take part in this Peace Poster Contest.
Past District Governor Bob DeLambily, a South Jersey Eye Center Board Member, talked about the success of the South Jersey Eye Center and the need to support the Lions eye program.
