The Camden County Prosecutor's Office is investigating.
UPDATE: The mother called 911 hysterical and unsuccessfully tried CPR.
LINDENWOLD -- Authorities are investigating after two infants were found dead in an apartment on Bilper Avenue.
The Camden County Prosecutor's Office said two babies, under a year old, were found unresponsive.
Det. Christopher Sherrer said the department received a 911 call just after 8 a.m. seeking help for a "respiratory problem." The babies were found in an apartment in The Pines.
Alice Shields, who lives a few doors down, said she had just run into the mother and her twins a few days before.
"She said they were doing fine," Shields said while walking her dog Wednesday around noon.
She said the woman and her mother have lived in the apartment for a few years and they were friendly. The mother of the twins also had a son a few years older, she said.
Shields said she did not hear any commotion Wednesday morning.
Another neighbor said he saw first responders remove two small bodies from the apartment. He said their mother also came out of the apartment, sobbing, and authorities helped her into a cruiser and left the area.
The man said that as authorities came in and out of the apartment, he did not see anyone who appeared to be under arrest.
A third neighbor, Ebony Bell, told the Courier-Post that she also saw the distraught mother outside the apartment. The grandmother was prevented from entering the apartment, Bell told the newspaper.
Alexandra McVeigh, spokesperson from the Camden County Prosecutor's office, confirmed that her office is investigating.
