Borough employee stops delivery theft scheme, police say

The borough employee saw two men tailing a delivery truck and thought something was wrong.

MOUNT EPHRAIM -- A Mount Ephraim borough employee helped foil the plans of two thieves, according to police.

On Tuesday, Grover Crandall, of Williamstown, and Charleston Carter, of Clementon, were arrested by Mount Ephraim Police after the watchful eye of a borough employee who noticed something suspicious.

According to police, the employee allegedly saw a suspicious vehicle following an Amazon delivery truck and felt something was off. Maintaining a safe following distance, the employee said he saw Crandall and Carter take a package from a door step after the delivery truck had dropped it off. He quickly contacted Mount Ephraim Police and within minutes the two were stopped by an officer.

Officers found that the vehicle contained a number of items they believe were stolen in similar incidents, potentially spreading to neighboring jurisdictions.  The two were charged with theft-related offenses, police said.

Police have not identified all of the theft victims and urge anyone missing packages similar to those recovered in the photo -- including shoes and purses -- to contact Det. Sgt. Siefert by emailing bsiefert@mountephraimpd.com or calling 856-931-2225.
