A check cashing store sold the lucky ticket
CHERRY HILL -- A check cashing store in South Jersey sold the $1 million Mega Millions tickets for Friday's drawing.
The lucky ticket was bought at the Mail House on Church Road in Cherry Hill, state lottery officials said Monday.
The ticket matched five numbers but not the Mega Ball. If the winner spent $1 extra to exercise the Megaplier option, it would have been worth $5 million as the Megaplier was 5x.
While there have been several second-prize Powerball winners in New Jersey in recent weeks, Friday's drawing marked the first $1 million Mega Millions ticket in the state in more than two months.
That ticket was bought at a deli in Sussex County for the Jan. 20 drawing.
Friday's winning numbers were 5-28-37-61-69. The Mega Ball was 1.
Tuesday's jackpot is worth $162 million with a cash option of $98 million.
Mega Millions is played in 44 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The odds of a $1 ticket hitting the jackpot are 1 in 258,890,850.
It's an 18,492,204 to 1 shot to match five numbers but not the Mega Ball and win at least $1 million.
