Joseph Boyd, 31, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Jerome B. Simandle to a charge of conspiring to distribute and possessing with intent to distribute crack cocaine, according to a statement from the office of Acting U.S. Attorney William E. Fitzpatrick.

Boyd was among eight men charged in September 2016 with drug-trafficking crimes following an investigation by the FBI's South Jersey Violent Offender and Gang Task Force.

Three others charged in the case -- Derek Stallworth, Tony Wilson and Boyd's brother, Jason Boyd -- have also since pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing on drug conspiracy and gun-possession charges, according to prosecutors.

Charges remain pending against Preston Thomas, Nafeez Griffin, Julian Dickerson and Jeffrey Whitaker.

Undercover officers and informants made numerous purchases from the men, many of which were recorded on video, according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court.

Court-authorized wiretaps also captured phone conversations in which Boyd apparently discussed supplying drugs to other members of the organization, the complaint states.

State corrections records show Boyd previously was convicted of aggravated assault with a firearm and sentenced to 18 months in prison for a January 2014 shooting on Ormond Avenue.

Boyd's sentencing has been scheduled for July 13, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine.
