Dawson Coyle took on a notoriously difficult song for his Knockout Round performance
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Panelist Adam Levine said it best: rarely is Imagine Dragons' smash pop-rock hit "Demons" done well on "The Voice."
Yet Dawson Coyle, a bright-eyed teen from Williamstown, attempted the tune Tuesday night on "The Voice" 2017 and unfortunately, his rendition just didn't connect with his coach Alicia Keys. The 17-year-old's take never quite settled into its pocket and Coyle was eliminated Tuesday, leaving no New Jersey-native contestants left for Season 12's coveted live rounds.
Coyle was bested by fellow teen Anatalia Villaranda, a pint-sized but potent singer who was, admittedly, much stronger on Carrie Underwood's "Two Black Cadillacs."
Coyle's eliminated comes a night after two more New Jersey singers, Felicia Temple of Teaneck and Autumn Turner of Montclair, were sent packing as well.
In the blind audition round, Coyle sang a bright version of Needtobreathe's "Happiness," and earned a chair-turn from Blake Shelton in the song's last few bars.
"My favorite thing about your voice is how much absolute passion and how much of yourself you pour into your performance," Shelton said.
But in the Battle Round, Coyle was not chosen by Shelton to move on, only to be stolen by Keys. But Alicia couldn't save him again.
