The discovery was made Sunday near Baird and Admiral Wilson boulevards.
CAMDEN -- Camden police pulled a body out of Cooper River near Baird and Admiral Wilson boulevards Sunday, a county spokesman said Monday.
The incident was reported at 12:45 p.m. Police at the scene Sunday declined to comment. Camden County spokesman Dan Keashen said Monday the investigation was "open and active." He provided no further information. The age or gender of the victim was not disclosed.
Officers gathered Sunday on an overpass over the river on Baird Boulevard just down the street from Camden High School. They advised pedestrians on a sideway crossing the overpass to cross on the opposite side of the street from their activity.
Barry Hicks, 61, took in the search after walking his bike up a path through a wooded area just off Baird Boulevard. He said he takes this route daily on his way to and from his job detailing cars. He said he wasn't surprised about the discovery.
"Anything can jump off around here," he said, leaning on his bike. "I got jumped by a bunch of young boys one morning when I was coming by here."
