Isaiah J. Newsome was 17 when he allegedly gunned down the Pleasantville teen
ATLANTIC COUNTY -- A New Jersey man who was 17 when he allegedly shot and killed another teen at a park in 2015 has been indicted on murder and weapons offenses, officials said.
Isaiah J. Newsome, of Sicklerville, was also indicted Tuesday on a charge of gang criminality, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
Newsome shot Dr. Steven Davion Garrett, 17, three times with a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver in Pleasantville's Max Manning Park on Aug. 7, 2015, prosecutors said.
The "Dr." is part of the victim's legal name and not a title, officials explained after the shooting. Garrett lived in Pleasantville.
Newsome was arrested on Oct. 8 at the school in Winslow he attended. On Dec. 23, a judge agreed to the prosecution's request to try Manning as an adult.
He was then moved from the Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center in Egg Harbor City to the Atlantic County jail in Mays Landing. Newsome remains held on $750,000 bail with no 10 percent option.
