The 'Hope Mobile' is an 18-wheel tractor trailer that can hold 45,000 pounds of food
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, professional basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets, announced his sponsorship of a Food Bank of South Jersey (FBSJ) "Hope Mobile," an 18-wheel tractor trailer which holds 45,000 pounds of food to distribute to local areas in need.
Kidd-Gilchrist unveiled his branded Hope Mobile on May 6 for a food distribution service held at the Winslow Township Elementary School.
Kidd-Gilchrist volunteered at the event, distributing food to local residents in need, along with the Mayor of Winslow Township Barry Wright, Winslow Township Police Chief George Smith, local firefighters, EMS, police officers, and volunteers from The Perfecting Church, which operates the monthly Winslow Township distribution in conjunction with FBSJ.
FBSJ's Hope Mobile program functions as the organization's mobile food pantry bringing crucial resources to individuals living in areas known as "food deserts" -- places that lack access to a viable network of well-balanced, nutrient-rich food sources that enable healthy lifestyles.
There are over 20 known food deserts across Camden, Burlington, Gloucester, and Salem counties of which FBSJ services to reach the nearly 50,000 residents who struggle with food insecurity in these areas.
