Cherry Hill Police established two sites for residents who want to want a safe place to complete online transactions.

CHERRY HILL TWP. -- The township police department established new "safe zones" so people can meet to complete sales made on Craiglist and other online sites, according to local officials.

Cherry Hill Police Chief Bud Monaghan said the zones are designed to make online purchases safer by bringing them into public, well-lit places.

"Online forums have become a popular means to buy and sell items," he said in a written release. "However, interactions of this nature are also prime targets for robbery, theft and scams."

The safe zones are located in an around the Township Municipal Building at 820 Mercer Street. One is inside the police headquarters lobby, and the other is located in the horseshoe of arming sports behind the complex. Both sites are highly-visable and monitored by surveillance cameras 24/7, according to Monaghan.

Officials urged residents to take advantage of the new safe zones, but warned that police officers will not participate in or witness transactions that take place there.
