Boxing great and Philadelphia native Bernard Hopkins helped donate 600 turkeys to customers at the Price Rite of Camden.

CAMDEN -- Earline Austin was first in line at the Price Rite in Camden, arriving around 9 a.m., five hours before she would receive a free turkey from boxing great and Philadelphia native Bernard Hopkins.

Shorty after 2 p.m, Hopkins emerged from the Price Rite, where hundreds of people were in line waiting for their turkey and a chance to meet the former light heavyweight boxing champion.

"I believe in helping people," said Hopkins as he waited for a truck to arrive with the 20-pound turkeys.

"I am doing it for the right reasons," he said "not doing it for my conscience."

With the help of volunteers, Hopkins was there to hand out 600 turkeys.

With the turkey she received, Camden resident Benita Smith is planning on cooking a Thanksgiving meal for the homeless and less fortunate in her neighborhood.

"Good deed to do for God," said Smith.

Customers also received Caroline Smoked Turkey Sausage provided by Brooklyn-based Arnold's Meat.
