CAMDEN -- On Dec. 7, 1941, this country was "suddenly and deliberately attacked" by Japanese military forces, President Franklin Roosevelt told the nation in a radio broadcast addressing the events that unfolded at Pearl Harbor.

On Dec. 7, 1942, the USS New Jersey was launched -- the beginning of a decades-long role of helping to defend this country.

Local officials from Camden and Gloucester counties along with U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross came together Monday aboard the Battleship New Jersey to mark the 74th anniversary of the fateful attack that dragged a world into conflict.

The event featured a performance by the Eastern Regional High School band and a wreath being cast into the Delaware River.
