Residents can sign up for Swift911 in order to receive information from the county during an emergency.

LINDENWOLD -- County residents can now sign up for a new notification system that officials think will help keep them better informed in the event of an emergency.

The Camden County Office of Emergency Management's new Swift911 system gives the county an easy way to get in contact in an emergency, and it gives residents choices on how they want to be contacted.

"This new system, combined with our other emergency alert methods, is designed to get critical messages to the public, quickly and effectively," Camden County Freeholder Jonathan Young said in a statement released Wednesday.

The new system is also web-based, which means county officials can send messages from anywhere with access to a phone or the internet.

People can register for the new system on the Camden County website and set up their accounts by adding contact information for every member of their family, as well as how they want to be contacted.

"We are in the age of technology where nearly everyone can be reached instantaneously through their cellphones," Young said. "This system is a great way for us to reach out, in whatever way is most covenant, to provide you and your family with the vital information you need during a time of crisis."
