Police have arrested nine college students who used fraudulently used school debit cards.
GLASSBORO -- Authorities have arrested nine Rowan University students on theft charges who used their college debit card to make unauthorized returns at a 7-11 convenience store.
Students were using their 'Boro Bucks' debit cards to make merchandise returns resulting in the loss of $35,000 at the 7-11, located off Rowan Boulevard, police said.
Rowan University reported to Glassboro Police last month that there was suspicious financial activity at the 7-11, prompting an investigation.
Kwadwo Brefo-Boateng, 21, of Lindenwold, was allegedly crediting Boro Bucks accounts for himself, and friends, by entering numerous merchandise returns into the card-reader system at the 7-11 on Rowan Boulevard.
'Boro Bucks' allows students to make payments for purchases or services at more than 90 vendors in Glassboro and neighboring communities.

Students are able to deposit funds into their 'Boro Bucks' accounts, as well as refill and use them like a traditional debit card.
Vendors have a separate card reader to allow charges on a student's account. The university has adopted accounting procedures to quickly identify suspicious activity within the Rowan Card system, as well as working with vendors to enforce tighter accounting procedures.
Rowan University Police, as well as the university's card services, investigated the purchases and returns using various student cards at the 7-11, resulting in the arrest of nine people during the past few weeks.
A warrant was issued for Brefo-Boateng at a full cash bail of $7,500.
Brefo-Boateng turned himself in to police on Jan. 14.
