The alleged attack occurred on a subdued and handcuffed inmate.

CAMDEN -- A sergeant with the Camden County Department of Corrections is facing official misconduct and assault charges for allegedly beating an inmate late last year, authorities said Monday.

John Stinsman, 43, of Pennsauken, was charged with one count of official misconduct, aggravated assault and simple assault.

According to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, Stinsman allegedly kicked and stomped the torso of a male Camden County Jail inmate on Oct. 27, 2015.

"Video surveillance footage from the jail shows Stinsman delivering these strikes after the inmate had been subdued and handcuffed, which is contrary to the incident report he prepared," the prosecutor's office said in a statement.

The alleged assault was reported to the prosecutor's office after a "routine review" of reports and surveillance footage revealed the incident. The prosecutor's office adds that the county corrections department has been "fully cooperative" during the investigation.

Stinsman, who was charged Thursday and saw his bail set at $50,000, was released after posting it.
