Quason Turner, 16, was pronounced dead late Monday.
PENNSAUKEN TWP. -- The mother of the 16-year-old killed in Monday night's hit-and-run crash along busy Route 130 called the driver "a coward" for fleeing the scene, NBC10 reports.
Quason Turner was attempting to cross the roadway when he was reportedly struck by 40-year-old Susan Hyland, who was driving with a suspended license. The collision occurred just before 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 130 southbound and 49th Street.
Quason was headed home after leaving his friends house following a shift at the Cherry Hill Mall, according to the report. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the report, LaTisha Turner said all Hyland had to do was remain at the scene and wait for help to arrive so her son -- a football and track player at Pennsauken High School -- wouldn't have to suffer alone.
What's more, Hyland's niece, who owned the striking vehicle and was in the passenger's seat at the time, secretly called 9-1-1 to report the accident after arriving back at a Camden residence.
Toxicology tests are pending for Hyland, who was later located by authorities in Camden near 29th Street and Clinton Avenue. She is charged with driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of a deadly accident.
